Santanu Kumar Pal

Biography:
Dr. Santanu Kumar Pal, FRSC, started his research as a Ph.D. student at Raman Research Institute, Bangalore, in complex fluids and liquid crystal synthesis. Subsequently, he did his post-doctoral research at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA. He is currently a professor at IISER Mohali, leading 7 Ph.D. students, and is getting recognition at the National and International levels. Until today, 17 Ph.D. and 32 MS students have graduated under his supervision, with one more in line. He has published more than 185 research papers in reputed peer-reviewed journals with citations of over 5000 and h-index of 40. Dr. Pal and his group focus on developing discotic liquid crystals for organic devices and liquid crystal biosensors. 

Santanu is a recipient of the Indian National Science Academy (INSA) Medal for Young Scientists (2015), the National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI)-Young Scientist Platinum Jubilee Award (2015), DST-Young Scientist Award (2012) and DAE Young Achiever Award (2014) from BOARD OF RESEARCH IN NUCLEAR SCIENCES (BRNS), INDIA. He has been chosen to receive The CRSI Bronze Medal (2020) in recognition of his contributions to research in Chemistry from Chemical Research Society of India. He became a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC) in 2022.
