Oleg Lavrentovich

Biography:
Oleg D. Lavrentovich received his Ph.D. (1984) and Doctor of Science (1990) degrees in Physics and Mathematics from the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences. In 1992 he joined the Liquid Crystal Institute at Kent State University, Kent, Ohio. He served as the director of the Institute in 2003-2011. His current research interests are focused on electro-optics of liquid crystals, topological defects, hybrid colloid-liquid crystal systems, liquid crystal elastomers, structural colors, ferroelectric nematics, liquid crystals as active matter and nonlinear electrolytes. He is the editor of Liquid Crystals Reviews (Taylor & Francis), Honored member of the International Liquid Crystal Society, Fellow of International Society for Optical Engineering (SPIE) and Fellow of the American Physical Society.
