Hiap Liew Ong

Biography: 
Hiap Liew Ong is CEO of Taiwan (ROC) Kyoritsu Optronics Co. Ltd., and VP Process and Optics Development of US Syndiant, Inc. His main research interest is in liquid-crystal electro-optics and display applications, a field he has contributed to for over 40 years. His previous employment includes 10 years at IBM as Research Staff Member, 16 years at Kopin Corp. as Chief LCD Technologist and VP Asia. He is a named inventor on 89 issued patents, published more than 100 papers, delivered more than 50 invited talks, co-edited one book and edited 7 books in LCD and display technology. Dr. Ong received 4 IBM Awards, the Glenn Brown Award for Outstanding Liquid Crystals Ph.D. Thesis, the Society for Information Display (SID) Special Recognition Award and Fellow Award, and the Taiwan Ministry of Economy Affairs Industrial Advanced Technology Innovator Award. Dr. Ong served as a consultant for Google and Facebook, the President of the Nanyang Technological University Alumni Association (Taiwan), an Executive Committee member of Taiwan (ROC) Loshasa Charity Foundation, Editor-in-Chief for World Scientific Publishing Co.'s Liquid Crystal Series and Information Display Series, and Editor for International Journal of Modern Physics and Modern Physics Letters. Dr. Ong earned his Ph.D. in Physics at Brandeis University in the US under the direction of Professor Robert B. Meyer, and his BSc in Physics and Mathematics at Nanyang University in Singapore.
